COMMITMENT TO LEAD REGULATION COMPLIANCE & PRODUCT SAFETY

As a responsible South African coatings manufacturer, The Lab Chemicals & Coatings (Pty) Ltd (“The Lab”) is fully committed to product safety, environmental responsibility, and regulatory compliance.

We proactively ensure full adherence to the Regulations Relating to Lead in Paint or Coating Materials, 2024, issued under the Hazardous Substances Act, 1973.

Our products are manufactured in accordance with the prescribed maximum lead content limits applicable to all paints and coating materials in South Africa.

Mandatory Lead Limit Compliance

The Lab strictly adheres to the legally prescribed limit:

• Maximum Lead Content: 90 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg)
  (Equivalent to 0.009% or 90 parts per million – ppm)
• Measured on total non-volatile content or dried paint film
• Effective Date: 17 May 2025

All applicable products manufactured, distributed, or supplied by The Lab comply with this limit.

Declaration of Compliance & Quality Assurance

To ensure continued compliance and transparency, The Lab provides:

Declaration of Compliance (DoC)

A formal Certificate / Declaration of Compliance is issued for each product:

• Prior to first commercial distribution of a product
• Following any material formulation changes
• When raw material suppliers are changed
• Where required by customer or regulatory authorities

Laboratory Verification

Lead content verification is conducted using recognized analytical methods.

Where required, testing is performed by accredited laboratories to ensure:

• Accurate quantification of total lead content
• Alignment with international testing standards
• Regulatory defensibility

Quality & Regulatory Commitment

The Lab Chemicals & Coatings:

• Maintains internal quality control procedures
• Keeps compliance documentation on file
• Reviews formulations in line with regulatory updates
• Ensures packaging and labelling requirements are met

From May 2026, all applicable product labelling will reflect the required compliance statement in accordance with South African regulations.
